Cooking by Jess

Ok, so I know today isn't my day to post, but since I missed Wednesday and I really want to post something, I will post anyway.

An AWESOME recipe I found in a magazine:

Hedgehog Cake

You Will Need:
~ An adult to help you ~
~ 1 ½ quart stainless-steel mixing bowl ~
~ 1 (18.25-ounce box Pillsbury Moist Supreme chocolate cake mix ~
~ 1 ¼ cups water ~
~ ½ cup vegetable oil ~
~ 3 eggs ~
~ 1 (16-ounce) can chocolate frosting ~
~ 1 sugar cone ~
~ 2 tablespoons vanilla frosting ~
~ 2 chocolate Swoops candies ~
~ 3 round chocolate candies ~
~ 2 small Tootsie Roll candies ~
~ Thin pretzel sticks ~

Directions:
1) Wash hands.  Using the first four ingredients, follow box directions for making cake, but grease the stainless-steel mixing bowl and use as a baking pan.  Ask an adult to bake 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.  Cool for one hour.
2) Place the cake flat side down on a cookie sheet, and remove the bowl from the cake.  Save 2 tablespoons of chocolate frosting for later, and use the rest to frost the cake.
3) Break off pieces of the broken end of the sugar cone to make it shorter and more like a little face.  Mix saved chocolate frosting with 2 tablespoons vanilla frosting to make light brown frosting.  Use this frosting to frost the cone, then push cone into side of cake to make the head and face.  Place round chocolate candies fro eyes and nose.
4) Flatten tow Tootsie Rolls with a rolling pin.  Ask an adult to cut them to look like feet.  Place on either side of the head and under cake for front feet.
5) Stick pretzel sticks all over the cake to look like spines, just before you serve the cake.

*Tips on how to make cakes great:
1) Frost the cake after it has cooled, so that the frosting won’t melt.
2) Try mixing different colored icings together to create a new color – such as the light brown frosting in the hedgehog cake recipe.
3) Wipe off the serving plate before presenting your cake so that it’s clean and looks impressive.

Happy cooking! :)
